Kasper's Home Décor & More is a small handmade home décor boutique, craft workshop, and an Elite retailer of Dixie Belle Paint, located in the Englewood Arts District in Independence, MO.
Owner Kassandra Dinwiddie grew up between East Providence Rhode Island and Liberty, MO and has resided in the Fort Osage area of Independence for the past 20 years. When looking for a location for Kasper's Englewood was the perfect choice. Our family connection to the area as my Great Grandmother took my mother and her siblings to the Ben Franklin often as children as well as the diversity of the area matched with the arts district, historical buildings, and a city feel in the midst of Independence close to home was the perfect combination of Midwest and East Coast for Kassandra and a reminder of both home areas where she grew up.
The idea of Kasper's came about from the COVID pandemic. During the pandemic Kassandra worked from home as many of us did and found comfort in returning to her crafting roots taught to her by her Great Grandmother Ida Marie Johnson of Sugar Creek, MO., her Grandmother Ana Large of Independence, and Mother Debra Frazier of Kansas City in her spare time. She began crocheting, sign making, and crafting quickly completing many projects and having quite a lot of stock on hand. So, the natural question came what and where to sell these finished items. "Being confined to home for 2 years selling online only was not an option for me", Kassandra said "I needed to see people have social interaction with other crafters". The search began for a brick-and-mortar location in January of 2022.
Kasper's provides workshops to learn Crochet, Sign Making, Furniture Upcycling and more. Kassandra has one biological son and two stepsons. With her sons having little interest in crafting and no daughter she wants to pass along what her former generation passed along to her a true love of making, creating, and the joy these activities, and relationships formed from them can bring for a lifetime. "Without my being shown how to enjoy creating the pandemic would have been much worse for me as crafting was my coping mechanism during the time," said Kassandra. As Kasper's continues to grow, we will add product lines that support the arts community such as additional types of paint lines, paint brushes and applicators, stencils, embellishments, and papers such as rice, transfers and decoupage.
